NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice

Course Summary

The NVQ Level 5 is for people who have several years work experience in health and safety.  You might be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring health and safety policy and practices within your organisation and want to use that experience to gain a professional qualification. This qualification meets the entry standards for Graduate Membership of IOSH.  Please see our personal development page for information on CPD and career progression.

To earn the qualification you must complete a range of units which include:

  • managing the use of financial resources
  • promoting a positive health and safety culture
  • managing the performance of teams and individuals

The course is administered by an associate training company however the internal assessments and visits are conducted by qualified members of the Acer Safety Services team.

NVQ's are achieved by proving that you have the skills, knowledge and understanding as required by the modules in the workbook.  By providing evidence, verbally, during recorded observation, testimonies from witnesses and managers and copies of reports, you will build a portfolio which will be assessed to see if you have met the standards required.

You cannot fail an NVQ, you are either competent or not yet able to met the standards.

Training plans are developed individually taking into account previous work experience, qualifications and work/family constraints. The qualification can take between 6 months and 2 years to complete.

NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

Course Summary

The NVQ Level 3 is an ideal starting point for someone relatively new to a role in health and safety. Time spent in the workplace developing systems for health and safety can be used as evidence for the qualification and benefits the company at the same time.  Please see our personal development page for information on CPD and career progression.

Generally the NVQ Level 3 covers the following:

  • risk assessing own activities
  • meetings and communications with health and safety
  • workplace inspections 
  • environmental awareness
  • self development
